A High Tea Benefit & Garden Party

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

I belong to the South Bay Women’s Social Group and I want to post about the “Giving Back” attitude of this wonderful group of individuals.

It started with a book club…

I first joined this group in May 2010 because they had what looked like a really fun book club.

It so happened that Yoke, the organizer of this social group, who is also the founder of the fabulous organic skin products company Avvya,is also part of the 8 women in this book club.

In December of last year, I asked Yoke if I can approach her group to see if there are any women who might want to participate in getting some warm clothing and other essential needs for the people in the region I wanted to help in Meghalaya.

Kindness and compassion

After I talked at length to Yoke about my vision and what I hoped to accomplish, she scheduled me to give a presentation about this at their bi-annual “Meet and Greet” on Jan 20, 2011. and since then, her group have been helping me raise some of the funds for our 2011 projects, not to mention some great friendships that I have developed with some of these women.

I have had people from this group donate warm clothing from the children, give impromptu donations during their wine socials and now there is a very fun event – what she calls An English High Tea – Garden Party in October, where part of the proceeds benefit Visions for Villages.

An English High Tea

This high tea is a dress up garden party for women and we are supposed to wear pretty frocks and hats and gloves. There will be tea, wine and champagne with lots of fabulous tea biscuits, cakes and such.

Additionally, there will be “butlers” (some of our wonderfully accommodating husbands), who will be dressed up in formals and serving the women tea – what a wonderful way to get pampered and spend a Sunday afternoon! I am loving the idea!

The pictures I have posted here are of another tea party Yoke organized in May of this year (notice the hats!). So the Oct event should be a lot of fun, and the giving attitude of the ladies who are coming is very much appreciated.

I just feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people. Stay tuned for updates after the upcoming tea event.

The Children in this little village in India thank you for your generous donations for their new classrooms so they can continue their education in this little school.

The building is coming along nicely and should be done by early November (see pictures below as of today).  Also, note that some of the wooden posts are temporary holders until the concrete walls come up. Completion milestones below from Mr Clement, our liaison in India for this project:

1. Laying of plank for beams and slab – Sept 8, 2011.
2. Laying of steel reinforcement for beam and slab – Sept 16, 2011.
3. Casting works for beams and slab – Sept 17, 2011.
4. Walling works to commence Oct 10, 2011.
